It's ok, he's English not Scottish ;-)

Scotsman Andy Murray crashed out of Wimbledon yesterday in the Semi's 6-4 7-6 (8/6) 6-4 to Rafael Nadal. However there was some good news for Scottish sports fans in that the Daily Mirror has unearthed the fact that Murray is actually English, so national pride can be restored and the entire incident of his defeat explained away at least until the next time he looks like he might win something.

Mirror.

Flower of England! Finally revealed... Andy Murray ancestral roots

Andy Murray may support "anyone but England" in the football but new research reveals his roots lie south of the border.
As the Scots tennis ace powered into the Wimbledon semi-final, genealogy experts traced his roots to England.
Website TheGenealogist.co.uk has discovered Andy's maternal grandmother was born to English parents from York and Berwick-upon-Tweed.
One Englishman already supporting Murray was Sir Michael Caine, who watched his centre court victory with Ben Stiller and his wife Christine.
Murray, 23, screamed with delight after finishing off Frenchman Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in a four-set match.
And he said last night winning his first Grand Slam at Wimbledon would be "extra special". But he warned: "I'm a long, long way from doing that.
I'm sure all Scots are now relieved and can go about their business with a sense of national pride restored with another "Anyone But England" moment in their lives. ;-)

And, if they were worth the paper they were written on, they would know that nationality and heritage (Name, etc, and family trees are traced down the FATHERS side, NOT the Mothers. So that meabs fuck all.

Except that Jewish ancestry is matrilineal (so he might be Jewish too).

Check the tag, the Mirror might be serious, but I'm not :-D

Sod that. The same rules apply as for Jackie Stewart or David Coulthard. He's British when he's winning and Scottish when he's losing.

And Berwick on Tweed is in Scotland half the time anyway.

Family trees are not just traced down the father's side, Furor Teutonicus. I've traced several lines, including two on my mother's side. Sperm and egg - fifty/fifty. You sound horribly sexist!

Tell that to the Royal Families of the world.

Whether you like it or not, the successors and heirs are traced down the male side.

Now go and wash your dungarees, and clean your welding set for work at the ship yard on Monday, and don't forget to take the pit bull for walkies.

Will I comment? Auch go on then I will say something. He didn't 'crash' out of it because it was a tight match, although the set score 3-0 doesn't make it sound that way.

I like him anyway and it's nothing to do with the fact he's a Scot. ;)

Maria - you are never going to get a reasonable response out of people FG - As his name suggests he vehemently supports the stupidity of Patriachal descent.

Forgetting of course that while every man knows his own mother it is a wise man that truly knows his own father, and there are a number of the royal families of the world who were living examples of that fact!
