It was only a combination of disease and a cold winter, (OBVIOUSLY caused by all those Wikings jetting off for holidays in Spain and places, and all the 4X4s used by those Sachsen rottersto take their bastards to school, right?) that put an end to the settelment.

It is NOT unusula for GREEN(!)land not to have ice around the edges.

And THINK logic! IF ice bergs never broke off, you would be able to skate the glacier all the way from GREEN(!)land to South bloody AFRICA.

Of COURSE they break off. It is NORMAL.Furor Teutonicushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13856575077967523322noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3875365454966245098.post-85619975488736460462010-08-08T10:38:36.662+01:002010-08-08T10:38:36.662+01:00No it's not Furor. In general terms Greenland ...No it's not Furor. In general terms Greenland is warming up, farming is taking off large. A friend of mine is working at the University in Nuuk, and his contacts with Greenlanders suggests that this is true. But it's slight and all quite within variences of weather that have been seen in the past. As is the cold dismal Scottish weather, with the wettest July on record just ahving been announced.

As my grandmother used to say to me when I was a kid..."little boys who tell lies grow up to be weather men."

I'm in this for the discussion. I don't think that sneering at other comments and calling a professor of climatology a prat takes discussions much farther forward, so I'll leave you to it.

Congratulations!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3875365454966245098.post-69767112992547315352010-08-08T10:00:10.286+01:002010-08-08T10:00:10.286+01:00It is the largest Arctic iceberg to calve since 19... It is the largest Arctic iceberg to calve since 1962, said Prof Andreas Muenchow of the University of Delaware.

Aha. So it was JUST as warm in 1962 then?

Not doing TOO bad are we, if climate has actually gone DOWN, using this prats own statement, until this year, when we have had a small blip upwards again. Or has there?

Even glaciers, no matter HOW cold the weather is, do NOT live forever. Pieces break off. That is wha the Atlantic is basically ICE FREE!Furor Teutonicushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13856575077967523322noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3875365454966245098.post-55005226741777444232010-08-07T22:10:08.098+01:002010-08-07T22:10:08.098+01:00In fairness, by "natural" climate change...In fairness, by "natural" climate change Greenland did grow a lot colder; the few easily obtained natural resources ran out; the livable area of Greenland which is still tiny (mainly along the south and west coasts) got narrower as the ice encroached and most of the population died.

It has been getting warmer over the last 20 - 30 years. There seems to be a climate change situation going on there... my issue is that it is a natural one and nothing to do with people buring fossil fuel.

That's not to say that the pollution and over population isn't another problem, but the key word is ANOTHER.

Al Gore of course will have an agenda. He's obscenely rich. (I imagine the electricity he uses to power his house could run a small town in Greenland!) Show me a man in his position who doesn't have a lying, cheating, me me me agenda!!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3875365454966245098.post-90815661493931845842010-08-07T15:09:46.665+01:002010-08-07T15:09:46.665+01:00Greenland was 'discovered' by the Vikings ...Greenland was 'discovered' by the Vikings who settled there and managed to grow crops that could sustain them through the winter.

Nothing like real history for getting in the way of scams is there.

More here
http://www.dwfisher.com/watching/2009/12/al-gore-skating-on-thin-ice.htmlWilliamnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3875365454966245098.post-86258786638379340982010-08-07T14:31:04.146+01:002010-08-07T14:31:04.146+01:00And Scotland is still waiting for Spring to arrive...And Scotland is still waiting for Spring to arrive... in August. It's cold here today. So there is certainly no global warming around my way.

There's no such thing as Global Warming. It's probably big business trying to con us into buying air conditioning.

If Greenland is getting warmer great. It should boost their tourism figures now that they are all but independent... and I might think about emigrating there.

It's preferable to freezing to death in the middle of the Scottish summer.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
